Strengths & Weaknesses | + Near-eidetic memory + Superb analytical abilities. Even when given off the cuff, his scientific analyses are generally spot on - somewhat closed minded. Meaning that he will rarely be able to entertain the possibility that he could be wrong. Some would also call it plain old stubbornness. - can get angry quite easily, especially in the face of perceived injustice. |

Personal History | Gunnar Magnusson was born in June of 2115 in the outer suburbs of Reykjavik, Iceland. He was the first of his parents' six sons. The city of Reykjavik was in the process of transforming into a major space commerce hub, and Gunnar's interests in space travel and the sciences blossomed accordingly. They blossomed so much, in fact, that Gunnar graduated from primary school nearly two years early and began advanced studies in physics and computers at age 16. He graduated with double Master's degrees (Physics and Computer Science) in 2136. By the time Gunnar had graduated college United Earth had chartered Starfleet and had begun tentative exploration of the space surrounding Earth, under the wary and watchful eye of the Vulcan High Command. Not really interested in teaching, Gunnar applied for and was accepted into Starfleet's Sciences program. Since he already held advanced degrees, his training focused more on learning Starfleet methodology. Gunnar breezed though the Officer Candidate program and was stationed aboard the USS Neptune, the first of the new Neptune class survey ships, in 2140. Gunnar rose through the ranks of the Starfleet science program rapidly, earning a reputation for diligence and hard work. When Captain Jonathan Archer was making his crew selections for the Enterprise NX-01, Gunnar was among his three finalists for Chief Science officer. Having achieved the rank of Commander, Gunnar was transferred to Starfleet Research and Development Annex at Jupiter Station. There, Gunnar worked on advanced tactical and weapon technologies such as the photonic torpedo and the Mark II phase cannon. After the Xindi attack in 2153, Gunnar shifted his focus (at the behest of his superiors) to defensive technologies. Gunnar's team was tasked with developing a graviton field emitter that could be configured around a starship hull...in other words, they were working on Starfleet's starship shielding system. Then the Romulan War began. Given his experience with tactical technologies, Gunnar was assigned to the new Yorktown class USS Unicorn in 2156. |
