Major Iria

Name Iria

Position Assistant Chief Medical Officer

Rank Major

Character Information

Gender Female
Species Vulcan
Age 50

Physical Appearance

Height 5'11"
Weight 150 lbs
Hair Color Black
Eye Color Hazel
Physical Description Iria is of slightly above average height for a Vulcan female. Her body is long and lean – to compare, similar to a professional ballerina’s figure. However, although lithe, Iria is inherently stronger than most humans but does not make a show of any superior strength when engaging with weaker species (unless necessary). She is considered aesthetically pleasing, with a heart shaped face, lips that are slightly too full (wasted on a being who doesn’t smile), and striking hazel eyes that appear to be the color of fine whisky with flecks of gold and green which is a rare color on the world of her birth. Her skin is a fair bronze, with a subtle green undertone, and she keeps her long black hair pulled up in a braided bun. If it were brushed out it would end past her hips. Her hands are long, with narrow, dexterous fingers tipped with almond shaped, medium length nails – painted a nude color to blend with her skin.

Strengths & Weaknesses Dispassionate / Logical – at least on the surface (as are most Vulcans)
Self-Assured – can be perceived as arrogant/haughty

Curious natured
Secretly grieving the loss of her mate

--

Iria’s strengths are varied. She is calm under stress – which is quite a strength given her profession and has the confidence (perhaps arrogance) that all successful surgeons possess that they can fix anything/beat the odds. She has no issues following chain of command, however on the flip side has no issues broaching questions or speaking up regarding concerns over any questionable orders. She is no diplomat and does not possess a ‘silver-tongue.’ She can come across as unsubtle or bossy when she has an idea and believes it to be the best course of action. Some can construe this as being arrogant or haughty, but Iria usually has a good reason for ‘arguing’ a point. Really good VULCAN reasons that no doubt translate quite poorly to off-worlders.
Hobbies & Interests Iria finds physical activity to be personally gratifying. When not on duty, or meditating as required, she is often found in the gym. Running is a form of meditation in motion for her – it also could be a metaphor for what she is doing regarding what she is doing with the internalized grief she is experiencing. More research needs to be performed on this subject to make any further objective determinations.

She is also an avid reader / researcher. It is a necessary requirement to keep up on the latest medical findings, so Iria is often seen with her head down reading a padd, especially at mealtimes. (Although sometimes it’s not medical research…she might have a secret ‘passion’ for Earth romances.)

Also, perhaps against her better judgement, Iria is fascinated with alien culture – which is why she studied xenobiology and focused beyond Vulcan physiology in medical school. It guaranteed her a rare/valuable slot off-world to practice medicine. Although Vulcan is her home, it is a restrictive place, and she had always desired the opportunity to explore beyond her planet, people, and culture. If given an opportunity to try new things, be it food/drink/activities, she will attempt it unless it goes against any deeply ingrained cultural taboos.

Personal History Iria was born to Soren and L’Saya, who served as diplomatic Counselors under Ambassador Solkar to Earth in the early 2100s. She is the eldest of three children, and has a middle brother (Kesh), and a younger sister, (T’Nara). She was conceived and was born on Earth after a brief illness, and did not step foot on Vulcan until her seventh birthday when her family returned ‘home,’ for her to be matched with a young boy, Ivek. Once betrothed, she remained on Vulcan for the rest of her childhood, as her mother had become pregnant again with Kesh and her parents deemed it logical to obtain the appropriate socialization and education that only residing planet side could provide. Her parents positioned the Vulcan diplomatic corps for permanent transfer back to Vulcan and it was granted, and they continued their diplomatic duties at home in Shi’Kahr.

It had been hoped that Iria would follow in her parents’ footsteps, however she showed little preference, and even less aptitude for such diplomatic duties. Iria was curious about the world beyond the restrictive yoke of Vulcan society. Perhaps it was due to her early years on Earth, or being exposed to a number of fascinating aliens, but Iria found the study of biology (especially xenobiology) to be particularly gratifying. When she declared that she wanted to be a physician, her parents readily agreed to her request, knowing this role would suit their daughter far better.
She entered the VSA, and met her betrothed, Ivek, at the appointed time for their marriage. They were well suited to one another, and although it was not a match made on love or desire, they both respected and held each other in high regard. Ivek was serving in the Vulcan Security Directorate and was gone for long periods of time while on assignment. This was convenient, as once she had completed medical school and her initial residency in Trauma / Surgical Services, she was accepted into the Interspecies Medical Exchange and began additional studies/training back on Earth to focus on xenomedicine. Her mate was sent on a long-term classified assignment near the completion of her medical training. Iria was approached by Earth’s Starfleet Command - United Earth Space Probe Agency and was offered a position onboard one of the NX class ships given the now newly mixing species. Vulcan High Command approved the assignment, and she readily accepted.

However, while enroute to her new duty station, Iria felt a horrid ‘tearing’ sensation within her and lost consciousness. She awoke in a small medical bay and was given a clean bill of health; however, medical scans did not readily pick up the sundering of a mate-bond. They had not had much time together as a couple to strengthen their connection to one another given their individual obligations to the agencies they served. They both agreed that given they were young, and their bond was new, that when it was required to come together again that they would begin their required year together at that time. It was this mutual decision to delay that saved Iria’s life. Although psychologically scarred from Ivek’s loss, Iria was otherwise relatively unscathed from his sudden death.
