Physical Description Slightly above average height, giving him a balanced, slightly imposing presence without being particularly tall. Leaner and athletic build, allowing him to be lithe and fit. A more striking pair of heterochromatic eyes caused by a mutation in the OCA2 gene can lead to a condition called sectoral heterochromia, where one iris is a different colour than the other. His right eye is violet and his left eye is grey. While he isn't living the Symbiosis lifestyle, yet5, he sometimes looks into his eyes and sees the contrast between a vibrant, unusual trait and a more neutral, Stoic aspect, hinting at the duality that Joined Trill lives by. Lastly, his chaotic paint splat shaped dark spots of an extreme range of sizes that run down his sides starting at the top of his head all the way down to his feet. Not only did the OCA2 gene affect his eyes, but it affected his hair colour. While there are hints of black near the roots, it appears that once the hair grows it turns Grey.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Dranoel Leomas is a calm and introspective individual, shaped by both his Trill upbringing and the influence of Vulcan philosophy, emphasizing logic and discipline. His martial arts training has instilled in him a deep sense of control, both physically and emotionally. Even before his involvement in Initiate training, Dranoel demonstrated patience, focus, and quiet resilience, which allowed him to excel in his security roles.

The intensive Initiate training and medical testing with the Symbiosis Commission added layers of complexity to his personality, as he was exposed to the intricacies of what it means to be a Joined Trill. The experience of undergoing rigorous psychological and emotional preparation allowed Dranoel to gain insights into the challenges and rewards of symbiosis. He approached this training with humility and openness, deepening his wisdom and understanding of himself, but it also heightened his awareness of the inner conflict between his over-protectiveness and his cautious nature. This combination sometimes leads him to act recklessly, despite his usual preference for careful decision-making.

Composed and formal, Dranoel harbours a quiet sense of curiosity about the universe. His time aboard the Unicorn marks the beginning of his journey with Starfleet, where he navigates both internal reflection and external duties as an officer.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strength & Weakness: Disciplined Yet Over-Protective
Dranoel’s training in the Trill Private Service and the Vulcan Argosy has endowed him with exceptional discipline and focus. He can maintain calm and clarity under pressure, quickly analyzing situations and acting with precision, especially in high-stakes scenarios. However, unlike his Vulcan colleagues, Dranoel is still subject to his emotions, and this can sometimes drive his actions.

His strong sense of duty and desire to protect others often leads him to act impulsively, especially when he perceives a threat to those around him. This over-protectiveness means he may rush into dangerous situations without fully considering the risks to himself, driven by a need to shield others. While his discipline usually tempers his emotions, there are moments when his instinct to protect overrides his careful, logical approach, causing him to take actions that can be both reckless and brave.

Strengths:

Physical Competence:
Dranoel is a highly skilled combatant, excelling in close-quarters combat and hand-to-hand techniques. His mastery of martial arts and security tactics make him a formidable opponent and a respected protector. He is still practising the Vulcan nerve-pinch technique, although barely passed the application of the technique he is not quite confident in using it.

Adaptability:
Dranoel’s ability to integrate both learned Vulcan logic and Trill culture makes him adaptable in diverse environments. His exposure to multiple cultures gives him a nuanced understanding of interpersonal and interspecies relations.

Weaknesses:

Inner Turmoil Initiate Training:
As an Initiate, Dranoel experienced moments of apprehension and self-doubt throughout his first several months of training with the Symbiosis Commission and afterwards as he returned to Vulcan. The intensive process of preparation, combined with exposure to the complexities of what it means to be joined, often led to emotional dissonance and uncertainty. Though generally composed, Dranoel occasionally found himself questioning whether he was truly ready for the responsibilities of symbiosis or if he would ever be chosen to become a host.

The pressures of Trill society, which emphasize excellence and the value of passing on one's experiences to future generations, weighed heavily on him. Dranoel felt the immense expectation to be the best in his field and contribute meaningfully to the collective memory of his people. This sometimes led to feelings of unworthiness, as he struggled with the idea of not living up to the high standards set by Trill culture. Despite his calm and disciplined exterior, the fear of not being accepted by the Commission, and thus not being granted the chance to join, lingered at the back of his mind, creating a subtle but persistent inner turmoil.

Emotional Reserve:
Due to his training with the Vulcan Argosy and his extensive time spent among Vulcans, Dranoel has adopted a composed and emotionally restrained demeanour. He found that emulating Vulcan stoicism allowed him to better coexist with his colleagues, especially in his security work, where calm and detachment were essential. However, this behaviour has become second nature, making it difficult for him to "switch off" and engage more freely with his emotions. As a result, Dranoel can sometimes come across as distant or detached, which can hinder others from connecting with him on a personal level. Paradoxically, when he is surrounded by high emotional activity, his guard comes down. He isn't quite sure he does it by his own will, or it is simply those around him that trigger it, either way this once his guard comes down he can more easily join in the natural flow of emotions, revealing a more open side of himself.

Isolationist Tendencies:
While Dranoel excels in his professional role, he sometimes struggles with forming personal connections. His daily life in the Argosy, and back in the Private Service before he moved to Vulcan, involved working with Vulcans who often preferred solitude or quiet contemplation over social interaction. To better integrate with them, Dranoel adopted a similar, reserved approach. Although this helped him function effectively in his security duties, it also reinforced habits that lead to isolation. His inner life is rich and thoughtful, but this preference for introspection over social engagement sometimes results in a sense of loneliness, as he finds it challenging to break out of these self-imposed barriers.
Ambitions Mastering Preparation for Joining:
As a potential first host, Dranoel’s primary ambition is to fully prepare for the experience of joining. While his biological status for joining has been confirmed, he recognizes that he may have a long way to go, both mentally and physically. Dranoel hopes to deepen his understanding of himself and what it will be like to become more than just himself, he has been told by his Field Docent that a host has to be acutely aware of their symbiont's own ambitions to connect with future hosts and gather wisdom from their experiences. Through this preparation, Dranoel aims to cultivate a body and mind that will allow him to embrace the responsibilities and complexities of being a Joined Trill, ensuring that when the time comes, he will be ready to fully integrate a symbiont into his life.

Exposure to Starfleet:
As his assignment aboard the Unicorn is his first foray dealing with Starfleet, Dranoel is ambitious about building a reputation as an exemplary officer. He seeks to make a meaningful contribution to Starfleet’s mission of exploration, security, and diplomacy.

Honing Leadership Skills:
While Dranoel excels in personal discipline and combat, he aspires to become a more effective leader. He recognizes that his reserved nature sometimes limits his ability to inspire or connect with his peers, and he works to improve his leadership presence.

Protecting Coalition Lives and Worlds:
Dranoel is deeply invested in ensuring peace and security within the Coalition of Planets. He sees his role aboard the Unicorn as an opportunity to safeguard not only Trill and Vulcan, but doing so with Starfleet could possibly help the wider interplanetary community.
Hobbies & Interests Martial Arts:
Dranoel regularly practises martial arts, maintaining his physical and mental discipline. His routines are rigorous, and he is always seeking to perfect his skills.

Ethics and Security Protocols:
Given his position and responsibilities, Dranoel is deeply interested in the ethical implications of security work. He often studies different codes of conduct, interplanetary laws, and Starfleet protocols to ensure his decisions are always just and fair.

Meditation and Mindfulness:
Initially, Dranoel adopted meditation as a way to blend in with Vulcan culture after moving to Vulcan from Trill in early adulthood. At first, he treated it as a superficial mimicry of a Vulcan tradition, not fully understanding its significance. However, over time, he came to appreciate the practice on a deeper level. Now, meditation is an essential part of his daily routine, helping him maintain mental clarity and balance, especially as a non-Vulcan navigating the complexities of his emotions. What began as a way to fit in has become a valuable tool for self-reflection and stability, one he now respects far beyond its original, casual intent.

Cultural Studies:
Dranoel enjoys observing and learning about the different cultures aboard the Unicorn. This interest aids him in navigating the diverse social dynamics with and within Starfleet and in dealing with interspecies relations in a security context.

Starship Security Systems:
Dranoel is fascinated by the mechanics of starship security. He enjoys learning about Starfleet's technology, even though it is slightly less advanced than Trill and Vulcan technologies, particularly how it can be optimised to ensure the protection of the crew and the ship. He hopes that his knowledge of his people's and Vulcan technologies can be a way he can become invaluable to the crew, while of course adhering to the Vulcan's policies as he is still a member of the Argosy.

Casual Philosopher:
Dranoel did find some fascination with philosophical questions, particularly around the concepts of identity, ethics, and duty. The interest did fall away as Security training and field work took more of his time up. He sometimes reads Vulcan and Trill philosophical texts, reflecting on how they apply to his own life and his role connecting with Starfleet.

Personal History Early Life on Trill (2126 - 2146):
Dranoel Leomas was born in 2126 on the Trill homeworld. Raised by his mother, Yubel Leomas, Dranoel grew up with little knowledge of his father, who was a Guardian in Training. Despite the absence of his father, Dranoel had a fulfilling childhood, nurtured by his mother’s care and guidance. He demonstrated a natural curiosity and a strong desire to learn, especially about Trill’s unique cultural traditions, including the joining of hosts and symbionts.

Teen Years and Martial Arts (2142 - 2146):
As a teenager, Dranoel’s passion for discipline and physical training led him to study martial arts. By the age of 16, he had already excelled in several forms of combat, gaining a reputation as a skilled and focused individual. This training not only sharpened his physical abilities but also helped him develop a calm and balanced mindset.

Trill Private Service and Vulcan Syrrannites Contract (2146 - 2156):
At the age of 20, Dranoel began his career in security by joining the Trill Private Service. Over the next five years, he worked as a freelance security professional, taking on contracts for the Trill government, as well as various industrial and commercial companies. This diverse experience allowed him to develop a wide range of skills, from combat and threat assessment to negotiation and problem-solving. In 2151, Dranoel moved to Vulcan, drawn by the planet’s harsh conditions, Vulcan physical conditioning and self-discipline after meeting several in a few of his freelance contract work that involved offworld travel. Seeking to deepen his knowledge and expertise, he attempted to join the Vulcan Argosy but was rejected. This was later followed up by his meeting with a group seeking to restore traditional Vulcan ideals of peace and logic, known as the Syrrannites. They officially contracted Dranoel to aid in their fight against the oppressive High Command. While he never directly interacted with the crew of the Enterprise, Dranoel played a few key roles in advancing the Syrrannites' objectives through covert operations and logistical security. His contributions, though sometimes indirect, were vital to the interconnected efforts that eventually led to the weakening of the High Command's control over Vulcan society. This experience honed his skills in subterfuge, diplomacy, and natural aptitude for martial arts combat, making him an invaluable asset to the Syrrannite cause and solidifying his respected reputation as a resourceful, effective and principled security professional.

Initiate Training with the Symbiosis Commission (Early 2156)
At the age of 30, Dranoel joined the Initiate program with the Symbiosis Commission back on Trill. An intensive testing scheme by the Commission designed to prepare potential hosts for future joining, since there are only 300 symbionts available there are a very competitive high number of Trill who enter the program every year. On and off during this period, he was paired with a Field Docent, an experienced Joined Trill, who guided him through the complexities of symbiosis and allowed him to gain insights into what life might be like as a joined individual.
The training focused on understanding the emotional, mental, and physical challenges of being joined. Dranoel’s time as an Initiate helped him build a deeper awareness of Trill symbiosis culture, and the responsibilities that come with being a host. This experience broadened his perspective and prepared him for future opportunities.
The Initiate program runs over several years and so with several months already under his belt, including several medical examinations that evaluate health and physical performance in a variety of exercises that included endurance assessment, Dranoel returned to Vulcan. He was excited to have got the majority of his Initiate evaluations completed, though many still remained as time was a factor in their criteria. Near the end of that year, he was offered an opportunity to participate in the Coalition's Officer Exchange Program along with the honoury 'provisional' rank of Major in the Argosy. This prestigious program provided him with a new path, allowing him to serve on any Coalition vessel; he picked the Starfleet vessel Unicorn, marking the start of a new chapter in his professional career and life.

Coalition's Officer Exchange Program and Starfleet (Late 2156):
This prestigious program was designed to foster cooperation between allied planets, including Earth, Vulcan, Andoria, and others. In 2156, Dranoel was assigned to the Starfleet vessel Unicorn with the Vulcan Argosy provisional rank of Major, serving as one of the ship’s Armoury Officers…
This assignment aboard the Unicorn was Dranoel's first direct serving with Starfleet officers and marked the beginning of his career as a more productive Coalition officer. His extensive background in security affairs, Dranoel brought a unique perspective to his role, combining his newfound insights from the Initiate program, both Argosy and Trill Private Service security training and his long varied services contract with the Syrrannites will help him deal with just about any situation that comes his way.
