Mission: Episode 4 - The Mystery of Carina VII
Location: Hunt Quarters

Samuel entered his quarters. The last few days, he had been on medical leave while healing and now after this check that he just returned from he had been cleared to return to duty. Sitting around these quarters the last few days had driven the MACO Captain crazy. His wounds from Coridan were worse than he had expected. Nothing too life threatening, but it was enough to warrant some time off. The last couple of days had been a time of reflection. Mostly he thought about his twin brother Martin who was currently serving aboard the SS Roosevelt. As much as he worried about his brother, Samuel often wondered if his brother was equally worried about him.

The word around the ship is that Starfleet and the Coalition wasn't too happy about what took place on Coridan. But as far as he was concerned, they kept those Romulans at bay. And prevented them from taking another world under their control. In all honesty, Samuel didn't even know what the hell a Romulan even looked like. For all he knew, a Romulan could be a giant slug. The Romulans had spent years, if not longer learning about Earth and the other members of the Coalition. And they had no idea that Romulans even existed. After winning this war, United Earth would need to improve their border security and increasing their own intelligence division. Way too many worlds out there viewed them as a threat or simply an easy target. And he honestly had no clue why.

It appeared as if anything outside of the Sol system was dangerous. His own family had already felt the loss due to these threats. His Uncle, Aunt and cousins have been killed by the Xindi. Instead of retaliating, they're leadership called it all a misunderstanding and let it slide. Millions had been killed, and they simply allowed it to slide with zero consequences. And then came the Romulan threat. Starfleet waited so long to really address the threat until the Romulans gave us no choice but to acknowledge that we were at war.

Samuel was far from an isolationist or xenophobe. But Starfleet had to do better job of producing powerful ships that would make any threat out there think twice about coming after them. But perhaps this was his MACO training getting ahead of itself. Though he wouldn't mind being in a position to help push and implement such decisions. Possibly after retiring, he would go into politics. Serve on the security council. The thought of him being involved in politics made him laugh to himself.

But those plans were for some distant future. In the meantime, it was time to get ready for work. If there was one thing Smauel hated, it was being idle.
